Marjaterttu Willman is a dancer, choreographer, and the founder and artistic director of Willman Dance Company and the Tanssin Voima Festival.
She has created numerous works for the Willman Dance Company, collaborated with various performing arts organizations, and produced commissioned pieces. Marjaterttu Willman creates multidisciplinary works where contemporary dance and dance theatre meet. She is interested in combining different forms of expression and exploring the versatility of the performer’s craft. In her works, Willman addresses the complexities of humanity and current societal issues.
Willman has over 30 years of professional experience in performing arts, narrative dance, contemporary dance, and classical ballet. She has been awarded the Golden Badge of Merit by the Finnish Theatre Information Centre for her contributions to Finnish performing arts and theatre life.
Marjaterttu Willman received her education at the Finnish Ballet School of the Finnish National Opera. She danced with the Finnish National Ballet from 1994 to 2020, performing in classical ballets and contemporary dance works. She also danced with the contemporary dance company Ballet de Lorraine in France from 2003 to 2004.
