Working according to the principles of safer space
The premise of the Safer Space Principles is that we treat others as we would like ourselves
treatable. To achieve this, we operate according to the following principles:
Respect the personal physical and psychological state of each, as well as the right to self-determination.
Respect the privacy of others and remember that everyone defines their own physical and psychological boundaries.
Confront Others as equals. Allow space for discussion, listen and be open to diversity and different
opinions. Be prepared to learn and develop. Take care of your own well-being and that of others the best you can.
Give some space. Everyone's opinions and experiences should be listened to, and everyone should be given a chance to speak without interruptions or belittling. It is important to give space even to those who are silent or aloof from the conversation.
Knowledge your own preconceptions and critically examine your own thinking. Do not hold your own view as the only correct one. Do not make assumptions about, for example, other people's gender, background, family relationships, or of opinions. Do your part to debunk stereotypes. Promote the flow of correct information and prevent misinformation spreading. Think and anticipate. Be aware that your own established way of thinking can sometimes offend others.
Identify and address discrimination, harassment and inappropriate treatment. Intervention is everyone's job.
Learn to identify and address harassment and other inappropriate treatment by addressing it calmly, if possible, already in the situation. Don't belittle the other's experience. Apologize, if you have intentionally or unintentionally offended others. Also try to recognize your own position of dominance in relation to others.
