Jouka Valkama

Jouka Valkama is a dance professional with extensive experience.

He danced with the Finnish National Ballet from 1995 until his retirement in 2020. Valkama has been creating choreography since 1997, with his works performed on the main stage of the Finnish National Opera, at Almi Hall, and in the repertoires of several freelance dance companies.

He has designed video projections for his own works as well as for the Finnish National Ballet and the Susanna Leinonen Company. His dance film SEE | OBEY, which he directed, won the Audience Award at the Loikka Dance Film Festival in spring 2016.

Valkama currently serves as the Artistic Director of Ballet Finland.
