Helmi Malmgren is a Helsinki-based clarinetist whose warm presence while playing creates a peaceful energy for listeners.
Helmi Malmgren is a clarinetist, bass clarinetist, and freelance artist who grew up in the countryside and later moved to Helsinki.
She performs professionally with orchestras and at various festivals across the country, and is inspired when music can be experienced as a physical sensation in the body. In addition to orchestral and chamber music repertoire, Malmgren can often be heard playing contemporary music. Helmi also enjoys collaborating with professionals from other art forms. She has created improvisation-based multidisciplinary projects in collaboration with visual artist Heli Penttinen, dancer Laura Koistinen, and circus artist Ilona Jäntti. As a counterbalance to her work, Helmi loves to spend time in nature, either on horseback or skis, and cook in her home kitchen after a workout.
